NDMA warns of rain in Islamabad, Punjab, KP and GB

Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Saturday cautioned that several parts of Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience on-and-off rainfall during the next 12 to 24 hours.

The alert highlighted the likelihood of rain in the upper catchment zones of major rivers, particularly Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej. In Punjab, showers are projected for Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Hafizabad, Sargodha, and Khushab.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the forecast suggests spells of rain for Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, and Mansehra, while thunderstorms accompanied by showers are expected in Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, Waziristan, and nearby regions.

Sindh is also predicted to receive rainfall, with Karachi, Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Tharparkar, and Umerkot on the list of vulnerable districts. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, on the other hand, may witness landslides triggered by rain in mountainous areas.

The NDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in hilly regions due to potential landslips, remain informed through radio, television, and the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application, and follow the guidance of local administrations.

The NEOC is maintaining close coordination with relevant institutions to provide timely updates and ensure efficient response measures.
