Bannu (Web Desk): At least five people, including three women and a child, were killed and 13 others were injured in suicide blast near a police station in Bannu on Friday, the security officials reported.
According to sources, the attack was an unsuccessful attempt to strike the Domail police station in Bannu district and was carried out by militants associated with Fitna al-Khawarij.
The initial initial reports revealed thatthe assailant drove a car filled with explosives into the back side of the police station, detonating it with immense force.
Officials said the blast caused significant damage to the police building and nearby residential houses.
The explosion was so intense that it was heard far beyond the immediate vicinity. The blast was followed by intermittent firing, creating panic in the locality.
Among those who lost their lives were four members of the same household — a husband, his wife, and their two children — underscoring the tragic human impact of the incident.
District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir confirmed that five people had been killed and 13 others injured, noting that several of the wounded were in critical condition and were being treated at nearby hospitals.
Rescue 1122 teams quickly reached the scene and began evacuating the injured, although their efforts were slowed due to ongoing rainfall.
Emergency responders also started clearing the wreckage and searching thoroughly for any individuals who might still be trapped.
In the meantime, security personnel sealed the area and began a clearance operation as part of efforts to secure the location and assess the situation.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed profound grief over the tragic deaths caused by a suicide attack at Domel Police Station in Bannu District.
In their separate statements, the president and the premier condemned the attack in the strongest terms, offering prayers for the martyred officers and wishing a speedy recovery for those injured.
In his statement, President Zardari said that eliminating the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country is foremost priority of the government.
In his statement, PM Shehbaz also expressed his resolve to completely eliminate all forms of terrorism from the country.
