Islamabad (Web Desk): On the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, public transportation in the federal capital will remain free for a month, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Friday.
Sharing the development on social media platform X, the minister said that the decision will take effect from tomorrow (Saturday) and will be applicable to all commuters across Islamabad.
The initiative has been introduced to provide quick relief to citizens who have been grappling with rising travel costs in their daily routines.
According to the Interior Ministry, the government will cover expenses amounting to Rs350 million to run the free transport programme for the entire month.
Officials explained that the step underscores the government’s intent to reduce the financial strain on the public while also making commuting more accessible and convenient.
The plan is expected to assist thousands of people every day, especially students, workers, and those from lower-income backgrounds who depend heavily on public transport.
Authorities said that additional information regarding routes and any operational changes under the scheme will be announced soon.
