Global oil crisis: Punjab govt announces closure of educational institutions, reduces fuel allowance

Lahore (Web Desk): In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East and the resulting global energy crisis, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a series of stringent security and austerity measures across the province.

The government has issued major directives affecting ministers, government officials, and educational institutions to curb fuel consumption.

According to the Chief Minister’s orders, all official fuel allocations for provincial ministers have been immediately suspended until the petroleum crisis is resolved. Additionally, petrol and diesel allowances for government officials’ vehicles have been reduced by 50 percent.

To further curb VIP culture, a complete ban has been imposed on ministerial and senior officials’ vehicle protocol, allowing only one vehicle per minister or officer.

In the education sector, all schools, colleges, and universities across Punjab have been ordered closed from tomorrow until March 31. However, institutions have been instructed to continue academic activities through online classes. Pre-scheduled examinations will continue as per the original schedule.

To reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion, a “work from home” policy has been implemented in government offices. Only essential staff will report to duty on-site, while other employees are required to perform their duties from home.
