Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed grave concern over the unfolding situation in Azad Kashmir, urging the people to maintain calm while exercising their democratic right to protest.
In a statement, he reminded citizens that peaceful demonstrations are guaranteed by the constitution but cautioned that such actions must not disrupt law and order.
At the same time, he instructed law enforcement agencies to act with patience and tolerance, to respect public emotions, and to avoid the use of force unless absolutely unavoidable.
The prime minister reaffirmed his government’s resolve to stand with the Kashmiri people and address their legitimate grievances.
While lamenting the unfortunate incidents that took place during the protests, he ordered a fair and transparent inquiry and directed that immediate relief measures be extended to the families affected.
In order to facilitate dialogue and find a viable solution, Shehbaz Sharif announced the expansion of the official negotiation committee.
The new body will comprise Senator Rana Sanaullah, Federal Ministers Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and Ahsan Iqbal, former Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Masood Khan, and Qamar Zaman Kaira.
The committee has been instructed to travel to Muzaffarabad without delay and engage with all stakeholders to work toward an early and lasting resolution.
The prime minister appealed to the Action Committee’s members and leadership to extend full cooperation to the government’s negotiation team, which has been tasked with preparing recommendations and presenting concrete proposals to the Prime Minister’s Office for swift implementation.
He further announced that upon his return to the country, he would personally supervise the negotiation process to ensure timely progress.
