Islamabad (Web Desk): Caretaker Interim Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti on Monday said that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir had told military personnel that whoever is found involved in illegal cross-border trade would face court martial and arrests.
Addressing a press conference along with Information Minister Murtaza Solangi, the interior minister said that
Bugti's statement comes as the government has launched massive crackdown on smuggling of commodities and dollars to Afghanistan after the national economy worsened due to illegal activities.
The countrywide action proved fruitful and Pakistani rupee has made significant recovery against the dollar in both interbank and open markets.
"Pakistan's army chief has told his people very clearly that there won’t only be court-martials, but those involved in such activities would also be sent to jail," Bugti said.
The minister said that that the accountability method within the army was not a public affair hence it did not come to the public knowledge.
"However, the army’s accountability system was seen in the aftermath of the May 9 violence," he added.
Speaking about the rising incidents of terrorism across the country, Bugti said that the caretaker government is taking active measures to address the issue of terrorism with several apex committee meetings being held.
"you will see changes in the days to come," the interior minister said.
Responding a question regarding Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo, the minister said that
Nawaz Sharif plans to return to the country and participates in politics, it would be "encouraging".
Bugti said his statement pertaining to Nawaz’s arrest upon return was misinterpreted by the PML-N.
The interior minister said that the government has to treat every Pakistani citizen in line with the law and the same would be done with the PML-N supremo.
