Trump to remove tariffs on Scotland–Kentucky Whiskey trade

Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has announced plans to lift tariffs and trade barriers affecting commerce between Scotland and the American state of Kentucky, particularly in the whisky and bourbon sectors.

Writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday, Trump said the decision would help revive and strengthen long-established trade connections involving whiskey production and wooden barrel manufacturing.

He noted that both sides have shared strong commercial ties for years, especially in industries linked to barrel production and aging processes used in whiskey and bourbon making.

The announcement comes in the wake of the 2025 trade deal signed between the United States and the United Kingdom, under which the US had introduced a standard 10 percent tariff on a majority of British goods.

The latest move is expected to improve trade activity between Scotland’s whisky industry and Kentucky’s bourbon producers, which have historically maintained close economic and cultural links.
