Pakistan, Romania sign MoU to enhance maritime connectivity

Karachi (Web Desk): Pakistan and Romania have taken a significant step to deepen their maritime collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving shipping and trade connectivity between the two countries.

The agreement was inked by Rear Admiral (Retd) Shahid Ahmed, Chairman of the Karachi Port Trust, and Mihai Teodorescu, General Manager of Romania’s Port of Constanta Administration, representing their respective nations.

The virtual ceremony was attended by Romania’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu, officials from both countries’ Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, and members of the Pakistan-Romania Business Council.

The MoU highlights the shared commitment to strengthen trade routes between Karachi Port and the Port of Constanta in the Black Sea, creating smoother and more efficient pathways for commerce between South Asia and Europe.

It is also part of Pakistan’s broader push to develop its maritime industry and blue economy, while positioning Romania as a key logistical gateway into the European Union.

The improved maritime link is expected to generate fresh opportunities for bilateral trade, benefiting businesses in both countries.

Ambassador Stoenescu, speaking on the occasion, underlined Romania’s goal of increasing its exports to Pakistan, enhancing its economic footprint in Asia, and fostering more balanced trade relations

He described the collaboration as a forward-looking platform for sustainable economic growth between Pakistan and Romania.
