AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry passes away

Muzaffarabad (Web Desk): President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Barrister Sultan Mehmood passed away at the age of 71.

He had been undergoing treatment for liver cancer in Islamabad.

His funeral prayers will be offered in Kharri Sharif on Sunday.

Barrister Sultan Mehmood was elected President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on August 25, 2021.

Earlier, he had served as the AJK prime minister from 1996 to 2001.

In terms of his political journey, he joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in February 2015.

In the legislative assembly elections held a year later, he faced his first electoral defeat in a 25-year political career.

However, he made a comeback in 2019, winning the by-election in Mirpur and reclaiming his seat in the legislative assembly.
