Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye reaffirm commitment to achieve regional peace and stability

Istanbul (Web Desk): Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have pledged to deepen their cooperation under the Makkah Agreement, with the three countries expressing a shared resolve to promote long-term peace and stability in the region.

The commitment came in a joint declaration issued in Istanbul following talks between the foreign and defence ministers of the three nations.

The meeting was held under the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, which was created as part of the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence.

The three sides agreed to continue supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at lowering tensions and promoting restraint, stressing the importance of resolving regional disputes and crises through peaceful means.

They also decided to undertake further measures to give their cooperation under the Makkah Agreement a stronger institutional foundation.

The move is aimed at reinforcing unity among the three countries, improving the credibility and effectiveness of their joint deterrence and defence arrangements, and supporting wider regional efforts to build cooperative security and achieve a fair, inclusive and durable peace.

Under the new arrangements, a secretariat headed by a Secretary-General will be set up in Saudi Arabia to coordinate and facilitate the countries’ work under the agreement.

The Secretariat will initially be headed by a Secretary-General from Pakistan for a period of three years.

The three countries further agreed to pursue joint initiatives aimed at enhancing their defence capabilities and strengthening coordination among their armed forces.

Cooperation will extend to the defence industry, including joint technological development and collaborative production.

The three nations said firm and organised implementation of the Makkah Agreement would allow them to make a meaningful contribution to peace and stability across the region.
