Nawaz Sharif urges govt to reduce expenses, focus on public welfare

Lahore (Web Desk): A consultative meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was held in Lahore on Saturday to review relief measures being taken by the federal and Punjab governments.

The meeting presided over by party president Nawaz Sharif was also attended by the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

Political and economic situation of the country and development projects were discussed during the meeting.

Talking to media following the meeting, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said that the participants of the meeting reviewed relief given in electricity bills by federal and Punjab governments.

He said that Nawaz Sharif directed to reduce expenses of government to provide more relief to the people.

The minister said that the party supremo also directed to complete reforms in local bodies law as it was part of party's manifesto.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the Punjab government has started providing relief to people of province in electricity bills through Rs46 billion package.

He said that the PML-N government is working on removing shortcomings of power sector.

The minister said that the government will bring down power tariff in coming two years.

To a question, Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan needs peace and continuity of policies for progress.

He said unemployment rate and inflation has been lowered due to policy measures introduced by the government.

The planning minister also expressed satisfaction over performance of the stock market.
