CJCSC, COAS call on President Alvi, discuss matters pertaining to national security

Islamabad (Web Desk): Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir separately called on President Dr Arif Alvi at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Wednesday.

During the meetings, views were exchanged on matters pertaining to defence and mutual interest, the Radio Pakistan reported.

On Tuesday, General Asim Munir took charge as Pakistan's 17th army chief at a ceremony held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

Earlier this week, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza also assumed the charge of his office as the CJCSC at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday telephoned COAS General Asim Munir and congratulated him on assumption of his responsibilities as the country’s new army chief.

The prime minister said commanding the excellent force of Pakistan Army was a great honour and expressed confidence that General Asim Munir would further contribute towards strengthening the defence of the country.
