Punjab CM orders high alert as heavy rains lash province

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed all relevant departments and local administrations to remain on high alert amid ongoing heavy rainfall across the province.

The chief minister instructed Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASA) and district authorities to stay active in the field and ensure the prompt drainage of rainwater to prevent inconvenience to residents.

She emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of drainage operations and ordered officials to closely supervise WASA activities to ensure that citizens do not face difficulties in movement due to water accumulation.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that rainwater should not be allowed to remain standing, particularly in urban centres and low-lying areas. She directed all concerned officials and field staff to remain present on the ground and make full use of available machinery and equipment wherever water collects.

The chief minister also instructed the administration to maintain vigilance and ensure smooth traffic flow by keeping traffic wardens fully mobilised during the ongoing spell of rain.
