Punjab CM directs concerned departments to stay alert amid heavy rains

Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday directed departments concerned to remain alert in the wake of heavy monsoon rains spell.

Taking proactive measures, she ordered immediate implementation of precautionary steps in the mountainous areas of Koh-e-Sulaiman in Dera Ghazi Khan.

The Punjab CM directed all departments to ensure round the clock monitoring of rivers and nullahs in Narowal, Sialkot and other districts.

She emphasized the need for strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to prevent any untoward incidents due to the looming flood threat.

The CM also directed the officials to ensure that residents of submerged low-lying areas across various districts receive timely assistance.

Continuous monitoring of flood channels in cities like Narowal, Sialkot, Shakargarh and others was also mandated to prevent any escalation of the situation.

The Punjab CM directed district managements to timely shift people to safer places and set up relief camps in case of flood-like situation.

She stressed the importance of securing livestock in villages by moving them to safe locations ahead of time.

Maryam Nawaz also underscored the need for vaccines against snake bites to be readily available at the relief camps.

In areas impacted by landslides, the CM directed the authorities to restore traffic flow without delay.

She also called upon deputy commissioners to rigorously monitor rescue and relief operations in their respective districts to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
