Mianwali (Web Desk): The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab on Friday thwarted a major terrorism bid in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Mianwali District.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the encounter took place near Chapri Dam, where six suspected militants were killed by gunfire from their own accomplices, while several others reportedly managed to escape.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the team moved to the identified location after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. As soon as officers approached the site, the suspects opened fire.
A heavy exchange of gunfire followed, and officials stated that the six militants who died were struck by bullets fired by their own accomplices during the crossfire.
Security personnel recovered a cache of heavy weapons from the hideout, which authorities said were intended for use in acts of sabotage.
A search operation has since been launched in the surrounding area to track down eight suspects who fled under the cover of darkness, with the area cordoned off as efforts continue to locate and arrest them.
The spokesperson further stated that the Punjab CTD is working tirelessly to maintain peace in the province and is firmly focused on eradicating terrorism.
