Trump cancels visit to India amid growing tensions between Washington and New Delhi

Washington (Web Desk): US President Donald Trump has canceled his planned visit to India, which was scheduled for the Quad summit in November. According to The New York Times, Trump decided to cancel the trip due to increasing tensions between the United States and India.

In a related development, a German newspaper, Frankfurter Allgemeine, revealed that President Trump had attempted to contact Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi via phone on four separate occasions in recent months, but Modi did not answer the calls. This behavior is seen as a sign of New Delhi's "intense frustration and caution."

The situation escalated after the Trump administration imposed a 50% import tariff on India, which is the highest tariff placed on any country, except Brazil. This move has further strained the trade relations between the two countries.

Commenting on the situation, Michael Kugelman, a journalist affiliated with a US think tank, stated that if these claims are accurate, it suggests that the US-India relationship has entered a crisis phase, and the close ties between the two leaders have been impacted.

In recent months, tensions between the US and India have been rising, especially after trade negotiations stalled, prompting Trump to impose harsh tariffs on Indian goods.
