Aleema Khan's son Shahrez sent on 14-day judicial remand in May 9 riots case

Lahore (Web Desk): Shahrez Khan, nephew of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has been placed under judicial custody in connection with the attack on Jinnah House.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore, led by Judge Manzar Ali Gill, rejected the police’s plea for an extension of his physical remand. Shahrez, son of Aleema Khan, appeared before the court after completing an eight-day period in police custody.

He faces charges linked to the May 9 incident at Jinnah House, as registered by the Sarwar Road police station.

He was taken into custody late on August 21 from Aleema Khan’s residence, amid allegations by the PTI that staff members were assaulted and the family faced harassment during the arrest. Shahrez’s brother, Shershah Khan, was also detained the following day.

The court directed that Shahrez be sent to jail under judicial remand, with further legal proceedings to continue under the anti-terrorism framework.

On the same day, Shershah Khan was placed on a 14-day judicial remand by the Lahore ATC, with the court denying the investigation officer’s request to extend his physical remand.

The officer, Muhammad Ashraf Javed, had requested an additional 30 days beyond the initial five-day physical remand granted on August 23.

He argued that more time was needed to retrieve Shershah’s mobile phone, a mask allegedly worn during the May 9 riots, and to gather information from his social media accounts.

The investigation also revealed that a photogrammetry test had been performed and a wooden stick was recovered from Shershah’s possession

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan has been excused from attending court in connection with charges related to protests she led last year demanding her brother’s release.

The case, registered by Sadiqabad Police following the violent demonstrations on November 26 in Islamabad, will be heard by an ATC in Rawalpindi on September 2.

The court, presided over by Judge Amjad Ali Shah, accepted a request from Aleema’s lawyer, Advocate Muhammad Faisal Malik, to exempt her from appearing in court.
