Cipher case: Shah Mahmood Qureshi sent to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand

Islamabad (Web Desk): A special court formed to hear cases under Special Secret Act on Wednesday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand in cipher case.

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, who has been given additional charge of the special court, heard the case.

Earlier, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) presented the PTI leader before the court after completion of his two-day physical remand.

During the hearing, FIA’s special prosecutor requested the court to extend former minister's physical remand saying they needed to recover Qureshi’s mobile phone and the diplomatic cable.

Expressing displeasure over repeated pleas for an extension, Judge Zulqarnain rejected the request and sent Qureshi back to Adiala Jail on on 14-day judicial remand.

The FIA had took Qureshi into custody earlier this month in connection with the ongoing investigation into cipher which PTI alleges contained the threat from the United States (US) to oust former premier Imran Khan from power.

Earlier today, the special court formed to hear cases under Special Secret Act extended PTI Chairman and former premier Imran Khan's judicial remand by 14 days in the cipher case.
