Turkey to offer mediation on US-Iran tension, sources claim

Ankara (Web Desk): Turkey has offered to play a role in easing the growing tensions between the United States and Iran.

According to Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is expected to discuss ways to reduce tensions through dialogue between Washington and Tehran during a visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Turkey.

Turkish officials stated that Ankara is ready to cooperate in any way possible to reduce tensions through diplomatic channels in this sensitive situation. A meeting between the foreign ministers of both countries is expected to take place on Friday, where they will discuss regional security and the state of US-Iran relations in detail.

On the other hand, Turkey has started to consider emergency plans to strengthen its border security in the event of a potential military action by the US against Iran.

According to a senior Turkish official, if the US attacks Iran and the Iranian government weakens, Turkey will take additional measures to tighten border surveillance.

In recent months, US officials have not ruled out the possibility of military intervention following the harsh response to protests in Iran, while a US aircraft carrier has already been deployed in the waters of the Middle East.

It is worth noting that Turkey, a NATO member, shares a 530-kilometer-long border with Iran. In the past, Turkey has opposed military actions against Iran.

A 380-kilometer-long wall has already been built along parts of the Turkish-Iranian border, but authorities suggest that these measures may prove insufficient given the current circumstances.
