Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced it is planning to send a legal notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for accusing former president Asif Ali Zardai of financing a plot to assassinate him.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, PPP’s senior leaders including Farhatullah Babar, Nayyar Bukhari and Qamar Zaman Kaira slammed PTI chief Imran over his allegations against Asif Ali Zardari.
The PPP leaders said that Imran Khan had “lost his mind” and the party would issue a legal notice demanding he rescinds his allegations.
Speaking on the occasion former Senate chairman Nayyar Bukhari said that the PPP maintained that the accusations by the PTI leader were “baseless and a lie”.
“Imran Khan has politically died regarding his political thinking and political character. He is afflicted with depression and panic,” the PPP leader said.
Bukhari said that in his panic, Khan blamed institutions including the establishment, the Election Commission of Pakistan and the former chief of army staff.
“We will be issuing Imran Khan a legal notice today and in that, we are demanding him to withdraw his statement. If he doesn’t, then the PPP has the right to approach the forums and courts for civil and criminal proceedings,” the PPP leader said.
On Friday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan accused PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari of hatching a plot to assassinate him after the failure of previous two attempts.
In a televised address, the PTI chief accused former president Asif Zardari of paying money to a terrorist outfit to carry out the latest assassination attempt on his life as they, according to him, have made plan C.
"I got to know about it and then I recorded my video explaining the attack. In a public rally, I announced that I would release the video if something were to happen to me. They stepped back after this."
Without naming anyone again, Imran Khan said that another plan was made to have me killed by a religious extremist, indicating towards the November 3, 2022, Wazirabad attack, where he was shot in the legs and is still recovering from the injuries.
"Now, there's a Plan C. Asif Zardari is behind this. He has amassed a lot of money through corruption and he has invested that money in terrorists and hired a militant organisation, "the former premier said adding that people from powerful agencies were facilitating the plot to kill him.
The PTI chief said that irrespective of whatever was planned, he would be back in the streets as soon as he recovered from the injuries he had sustained during the Wazirabad attack.
“But if something happens to me, my nation should know who was behind it,” Khan said.
