Iran announces closure of the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran (Web Desk): The Iranian Revolutionary Guards have announced the temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz, preventing all maritime traffic from passing through the strategic waterway.

In an official statement, the Guards said that, due to the current situation, all ship movements in the strait have been suspended.

According to British media reports, nearly 20 percent of the world’s crude oil supply passes through this narrow 40-kilometer-wide channel, making it a critical route for global energy transportation.

Several major oil-producing countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Iran, rely on the strait for exporting their crude oil.

Additionally, Qatar, the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), also uses the Strait of Hormuz for its gas shipments.

Experts warn that a significant portion of crude oil sent by OPEC member nations to Asian markets passes through this strait, and its closure could have serious repercussions for global energy markets.
