Lahore (Staff Report): opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz have been released from jail on parole to attend Begum Shamim Akhtar’s funeral.
Earlier, the Punjab Home Department issued a notification approving the release of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and his son on parole for five days.
Funeral prayer of Begum Shamim Akhtar – mother of former premier Nawaz Sharif and Punjab’s former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif, who passed away in London on Sunday morning, was held at the Regent’s Park mosque in London on Friday.
Begum Shamim Akhtar’s body is reportedly to be taken straight to the Heathrow airport after the funeral prayer from where it will be flown to Lahore.
According to the family sources, Shamim Akhtar had developed a severe chest infection and was suffering from an advanced stage of Alzheimer’s disease. Her condition had deteriorated over the last week and she could not regain her health due to old age.
