Quetta (Web Desk): An explosion occurred on Quetta's Double Road near Barich Market, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving 21 others injured, according to the provincial health department.
Emergency responders rushed the wounded to the trauma centre, where medical teams are providing treatment.
Balochistan’s health department spokesperson Dr Waseem Baig confirmed that the injured victims have been transferred to the trauma center at Civil Hospital for treatment.
The blast reportedly took place close to a police van, though authorities are still working to determine the exact nature of the explosion.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation to determine the nature of the blast and those responsible.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast and expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives in the terrorist attack.
In a statement, the president expressed deep grief over the loss of precious lives in the explosion.
“Such heinous acts during the holy month of Ramadan reflect the nefarious designs of terrorists,” President Zardari said.
He prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the deceased and commiserated with the bereaved families.
The president also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls.
He directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.
The premier also directed an investigation into the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
“We will not allow the miscreants' nefarious designs to succeed,” the PM said and vowed to continue the war against terrorism until its completely eradicated from the country.
This attack follows closely on the heels of another tragic incident last week when a roadside bomb targeted a police vehicle on Brewery Road. In that blast, a member of the Anti-Terrorist Force (ATF) was killed, and six others were injured, three of them critically.
