Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Health Department has said that at least 12,462 children include patients ranging from infants to age of 15 years have contracted coronavirus in Punjab.
In Lahore alone, more than 5,300 children have contracted coronavirus.
The spokesperson for the Primary and Secondary Health Care Department in Punjab said 16,473 COVID-19 tests were carried out in the province in the last 24 hours — and 2,330 people were found to be infected. The province's overall cases have exceeded 210,000, and the death toll has moved up to 6,188.
In Lahore, in the last 24 hours, 6,762 tests were carried out, and 1,233 people tested positive for the infection — raising the city’s positivity ratio to 18% in the last 24 hours.
Earlier, Federal Minister Asad Umar has warned of tougher restrictions if the COVID-19 situation doesn’t improve.
Addressing the media after chairing a session of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the federal minister said that more restrictions were imposed during the last two weeks due to the deteriorating coronavirus situation.
Asad Umar, who is also chairman of NCOC, asked the people to strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) against Covid-19 to prevent the spread of pandemic.
The third wave of Covid-19 is spreading across the country at a very fast speed and positive cases are increasing rapidly, the minister added and maintained that during the last five days, positivity rate has increased manifold and we will have to battle this disease unitedly by observing all SOPs.
