Punjab imposes Section 144 amid monsoon rains

Lahore (Web Desk) : The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province in view of heavy monsoon rains and the risk of flooding in rivers and streams, banning swimming in rainwater, water bodies, and unauthorized boating.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, swimming and bathing in dams, canals, rivers, lakes, and ponds across the province have been prohibited.

The notification also declares it illegal to bathe in rainwater accumulated on streets, roads, and other public places.

In addition, unauthorized boating in rivers and lakes has been banned. Authorities said these restrictions, imposed under Section 144, will remain in force for the next two months.

The Home Department said the measures are aimed at protecting lives by preventing accidents caused by urban flooding, strong water currents, and other monsoon-related hazards.

Officials said the decision was taken in light of rising water levels in various reservoirs across Punjab and the increased risk posed by ongoing monsoon conditions.
