Pakistan-Afghanistan tensions: Russia urges restraint and calls for dialogue

Moscow (Web Desk): In response to the recent surge in tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Russia has urged both countries to exercise restraint and seek peaceful solutions through dialogue. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that maintaining regional stability is paramount and called on both sides to immediately halt cross-border attacks.

According to the statement, diplomatic channels should be prioritized to resolve disputes, rather than military escalation. The ministry stressed that peaceful engagement between Pakistan and Afghanistan is essential for ensuring long-term security and stability in South Asia.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also indicated that Moscow is willing to play a mediating role if requested by either side. “If both parties agree, Russia is prepared to facilitate dialogue between Pakistan and Afghanistan to ease tensions and foster improved bilateral relations,” the statement said.

This comes amid reports of intermittent cross-border incidents and rising hostility along the shared border, which have drawn concern from regional and international observers. Russia’s offer of mediation reflects its interest in promoting stability in the region and preventing further escalation.
