Champions Trophy 2025: Rain washes out Pakistan-Bangladesh match in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Rain disrupted the 9th match of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Champions Trophy, leaving the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium abandoned on Thursday.

This marks the second consecutive game at the venue to be washed out, as the previous day saw the match between Australia and South Africa suffer the same fate due to persistent rain.

Persistent showers throughout the day, coupled with an unrelenting downpour overnight, meant that conditions were unplayable.

Despite hopes for a break in the weather, the match was officially called off with no toss even taking place.

This washout leaves both Pakistan and Bangladesh winless in the tournament, firmly planted at the bottom of the Group A standings, their hopes of advancing extinguished.

With no signs of improvement in the weather, match officials, including umpires Adrian Holdstock and Michael Gough, determined that the game could not proceed.

Already eliminated from semi-final contention following losses in their opening two matches, both teams now face an early exit from the competition.

India and New Zealand have already secured their spots in the semi-finals, with Group B now seeing South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan all vying for the final two spots.

England, after a disappointing run, are no longer in the hunt for a semi-final berth.
