New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate demand for dignity, justice and the right to self-determination.
Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, conveyed the country’s position while addressing the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) monthly briefing on the continuing situation in the Middle East.
He stated that Israel, as the occupying power, should immediately stop all actions that violate international law and seek to change the legal, territorial and demographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The Pakistani envoy ambassador called for a complete cessation of illegal settlement activities, violence by settlers, attempts at annexation and the forced removal of Palestinians from their homes.
The Pakistani envoy said such steps must end in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also stressed the need for the Gaza Peace Plan and Resolution 2803 to be carried out completely and sincerely.
The Pakistani envoy said implementation should begin with the effective enforcement of the ceasefire and the establishment of an appropriate mechanism to ensure that it is properly monitored and verified.
"The only viable path to peace for all people in the region is a just, comprehensive peace based on UN Security Council resolutions and international legitimacy, with the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian State on the pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds al Sharif as its capital," Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said.
