Flood waters enter Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan Army rescues stranded people

Lahore (Web Desk): Heavy monsoon rains and a breach in the protective embankment of the River Ravi have caused severe flooding in parts of Punjab, resulting in water entering the sacred Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, located near the Pakistan-India border in Narowal District.

The situation unfolded after India reportedly released a large volume of water into the river system, significantly raising water levels and overwhelming protective infrastructure.

As floodwaters surged, they inundated the Gurdwara complex, a site of deep religious importance for Sikhs around the world. Reports indicate that nearly 4.4 feet of water has accumulated within the premises of the Kartarpur Sahib shrine. The rising water left numerous pilgrims stranded, disrupting religious practices and raising concerns for their safety.

Access routes to the area have also been severely impacted. The Narowal–Shakargarh road was closed to all traffic after being submerged by the rising floodwaters. Authorities confirmed that the water reached Kartarpur Bastian Bhajna along the main route, making travel impossible and further complicating rescue efforts.

In response to the emergency, the Pakistan Army, along with rescue services and other relevant departments, launched evacuation operations to assist those trapped inside the flooded complex.

Meanwhile, flood conditions remain critical across the region, with the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers flowing at dangerously high levels. Shakargarh and surrounding villages are among the hardest-hit areas, with several feet of water recorded in residential and public spaces.

Efforts to manage the disaster are ongoing, as both civilian and military agencies work to minimize damage and ensure the safety of those affected by the severe flooding.
