PM Shehbaz allows spectators for PSL 11 playoffs and final: Naqvi

Lahore (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday approved the decision to allow spectators inside stadiums for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 playoff matches, enabling fans to experience the games live from the venues.

The approval came during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House, where Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met the premier and requested permission for public attendance at the crucial knockout fixtures.

The prime minister accepted the request and issued instructions to open stadium gates for fans during the playoffs.

Following the decision, Naqvi shared the update on his official X account, stating, "Just had a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and I’m pleased to share that we have secured his approval for public attendance in all three PSL playoff matches as well."

He further mentioned that the approval includes a condition from the prime minister’s side, noting, "comes with an important condition from his side that fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport or minimise fuel consumption while attending the matches, in line with the ongoing national austerity efforts".

The PCB chairman advised cricket supporters to prefer public transport when travelling to the stadiums to help ease traffic pressure and avoid congestion. He also extended his good wishes to the four teams that have made it to the playoffs: Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, Multan Sultans, and Hyderabad Kingsmen.

The playoff stage is set to begin in Karachi tomorrow, with the opening match scheduled at the National Stadium where Peshawar Zalmi will take on Islamabad United. Fan excitement has already surged, especially after strong social media calls for allowing in-person attendance during the decisive matches.

Mohsin Naqvi also remarked, "We are looking forward to cricket that is both entertaining and exciting," reflecting the anticipation surrounding the knockout stage.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that fans may also be granted free entry for the opening playoff match, further building excitement for the high-voltage clash between Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United at the National Stadium Karachi.
