Muharram moon sighted, Ashura to fall on July 6

Quetta (Web Desk): The crescent moon marking the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH has been sighted in various parts of Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Thursday.

The announcement came after a meeting of the committee held in Quetta, presided over by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Officials from SUPARCO and the Pakistan Meteorological Department also attended the session. Concurrent meetings of zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees were held across the country.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad confirmed that credible moon-sighting testimonies had been received from multiple locations, marking the beginning of the new Islamic year.

According to the committee, Friday, June 27 will be observed as 1st Muharram, the start of the Islamic year 1447 AH. 9th Muharram will fall on Saturday, July 5, while Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram) will be observed on Sunday, July 6.

The announcement sets the schedule for nationwide observance of Muharram, a month of great religious significance for Muslims around the world.
