Threats to sikh leader Muninder Singh heighten Canada-India diplomatic tensions

Ottawa (Web Desk): Concerns over the safety of Sikh leaders in Canada have resurfaced after Canadian intelligence and police warned Muninder Singh, head of the Sikh Federation of Canada, about serious threats to his life.

According to Global News, secret intelligence indicates that Singh and his family could be direct targets of potential attacks. Authorities have advised him to take extreme precautions and follow specific security measures.

This is not the first time Muninder Singh has faced threats. In 2022, he, along with Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, received threats. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was later murdered in Canada, escalating diplomatic tensions between Canada and India.

Canadian officials stated that they are investigating foreign interference, misinformation campaigns, and pressure on political opponents, reportedly involving local criminal groups to target political figures.

Analysts also link this situation to the alleged assassination plot against Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pann in the US.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has strongly denied these allegations, calling them baseless. Analysts warn that the latest threats against Muninder Singh could further intensify the diplomatic crisis between Canada and India.
