Parveen Shakir remembered on 31st death anniversary 

Islamabad (Web Desk): Today marks 31 years since the world lost the legendary Urdu poetess Parveen Shakir, yet her poetry continues to resonate deeply with readers.

Her work, often adorned with themes of love, fragrance, flowers, breeze, and butterflies, remains a timeless presence in the hearts of literature enthusiasts.

Born on November 4, 1952, into a literary family in Karachi, Parveen Shakir embarked on her literary journey at a young age.

Excelling in both prose and poetry, she carved a unique identity with her innovative and profound style. While she initially wrote under the pen name “Bina,” her distinctive voice soon made her a celebrated figure in Urdu literature.

Her first poetry collection, Khushbu, published in 1976, created a significant impact and earned her the enduring title of “The Poetess of Fragrance.”

Over the years, Shakir authored several acclaimed works, including Sad-Barg, Khod Kalami, Inkaar, Mah-e-Tamaam, Kaf-e-Aaina, and Gosha-e-Chashm.

Her poetry introduced a fresh wave of emotion and sensitivity to Urdu literature, gaining widespread appreciation in literary circles. In recognition of her contributions, she was awarded the Presidential Award for Pride of Performance in 1990.

Even decades after her passing, Parveen Shakir’s poetry continues to captivate readers, offering solace and inspiration to new generations.

Tragically, she passed away in a car accident in Islamabad on December 26, 1994, at the age of 42. Yet, through her evocative verses, she remains immortal in the hearts of poetry lovers and in the legacy of Urdu literature.
