19th death anniversary of renowned Urdu, Punjabi poet Munir Niazi observed 

Lahore (Web Desk): The 19th death anniversary of Munir Niazi, a distinctive voice in Urdu and Punjabi poetry, is being observed today. His verses, rich with echoes of vanished landscapes, the quiet pain of broken relationships, and the profound weight of solitude, continue to resonate deeply with readers even years after his passing.

Munir Niazi holds a prominent place among major Urdu and Punjabi poets who expanded the emotional and imaginative horizons of modern poetry.

He was born on April 9, 1928, in Hoshiarpur district and migrated to Lahore after the creation of Pakistan. It was in Lahore that he firmly established himself, gradually winning the hearts of readers through a poetic expression marked by introspection, mystery, and emotional depth.

He published thirteen collections of Urdu poetry, including Be-Wafa Ka Shehar, Tez Hawa Aur Tanha Phool, Jangal Mein Dhanak, Safaid Din Ki Hawa, and Mah-e-Munir, which are regarded as some of his most significant works. In addition, three collections in Punjabi and two in English were also published.

Munir Niazi was particularly known for his evocative use of jungle imagery, weaving symbols of wilderness into his poetry with striking beauty. His poems often feel like journeys through a misty past, where forgotten scenes and the faint sounds of lost relationships linger, compelling the reader to follow their trail.

In recognition of his outstanding literary contributions, Munir Niazi was honoured with prestigious national awards, including the Pride of Performance and the Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

He passed away on December 26, 2006, in Lahore, but his poetry remains alive, continuing to rekindle memories of lost love, longing, and cherished moments in the hearts of every new generation of readers.
