Pakistan open to neutral, transparent Pahalgam incident probe: PM Shehbaz 

Kakul (Web Desk): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday while reiterating Pakistan’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, said that Pakistan as a responsible country is open to participate ‘in any neutral, transparent and credible investigation’ into Pahalgam incident.

Addressing the passing out parade of cadets at the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in Kakul, he lauded the military’s capability and full preparedness to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against any external threat or misadventure.

He described the armed forces as a symbol of valor, discipline, and steadfast commitment to the country.

Stressing that while Pakistan prefers peace, this inclination should never be mistaken for weakness, the prime minister made it clear that the nation will never compromise on its dignity or national security.

PM Shehbaz issued a firm warning regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that any attempt to halt, reduce, or divert Pakistan’s rightful share of water would be met with full force.

Describing water as the country’s lifeline and a matter of vital national interest, the premier pledged its protection under all circumstances.

Condemning terrorism in all its forms, PM Shehbaz reminded the audience of the immense sacrifices Pakistan has made, with over 90,000 lives lost and economic damages exceeding $600 billion.

He reiterated that the country remains steadfast in its resolve to eliminate terrorism of any kind, without exception.

PM Shehbaz expressed regret over the conduct of Pakistan’s eastern neighbour, accusing it of a continued pattern of exploitation and baseless accusations without credible evidence or transparent investigations.

He referred to the recent incident in Pahalgam as another example of India’s persistent blame game, asserting that Pakistan is open to any neutral, transparent, and credible investigation into such matters.

Addressing the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute, PM Shehbaz recalled Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s declaration of Kashmir as the jugular vein of Pakistan.

He noted with concern that the issue remains unresolved despite multiple United Nations (UN) resolutions.

PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination and vowed that their struggle and sacrifices would not be forgotten.

He also drew attention to the systematic persecution of minorities in India, particularly Muslims and Sikhs, stating that this trend has become increasingly pervasive over the years.

“India must bear full responsibility for its failure to safeguard the rights, dignity, and safety of these marginalized communities,” the premier said.

Turning his focus to relations with Afghanistan, PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s desire for peaceful and cooperative neighbourly relations. However, he strongly condemned the continued terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil.

The prime minister disclosed that a clear and firm message had been delivered to the interim Afghan government, asserting that peaceful relations cannot be sustained if terrorist groups like Fitnah Al Khwarij continue to use Afghanistan as a base to attack Pakistan.

PM Shehbaz highlighted Pakistan’s active global diplomacy, noting that the country has revitalised old alliances and established new partnerships to enhance its global outreach.

“As a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan remains fully committed to promoting global peace and security and upholding the principles of the UN Charter,” the premier said emphasising that in ever-given opportunities and platforms, Pakistan raised voice for the innocent people of Palestine whose demand for a free and independent state had been sanctified in numerous UN resolutions.

In discussing domestic matters, PM Shehbaz pointed to significant progress in economic recovery.

He noted that the country is making bold strides and achieving important milestones in attracting foreign investment, particularly in sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture, livestock, information technology, and defense production.

PM Sherhbaz congratulated the cadets and said that they joined the finest armies of the world renowned for its valour, discipline and unwavering commitment to the nation.

He also felicitated the cadets from the brotherly nations on the completion of their courses and said that it was their centuries-old tradition to welcome guests with open arms as part of their family.

The prime minister expressed the confidence that they would transform themselves into custodians of the vision of the great Quaid and his golden principles of faith unity and discipline.

The ceremony concluded with the prime minister awarding medals to the top performing cadets.

The ceremony was attended by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asif Munir, military leadership, federal ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and parents of the cadets.
