Islamabad: Two retired officers of Pakistan Army convicted and sentenced through Field General Court Martial under Pakistan Army Act, for the charges of inciting sedition and for violating the provisions of Official Secrets Act, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
According to the statement by Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), Major (Retired) Adil Farooq Raja and Captain (Retired) Haider Raza Mehdi, both retired officers of Pakistan Army, were convicted and sentenced under Pakistan Army Act, 1952 for the charges of inciting sedition among army personnel from discharge of duties and violation of the provisions of Official Secrets Act, 1923 related to espionage and acts prejudicial to the safety and interest of the State.
The ISPR said that “The court of competent jurisdiction convicted and adjudged both the individuals on the date of 7th and 9th October 2023, through due judicial process.”
“Major (Retired) Adil Farooq Raja were awarded 14 years rigorous imprisonment while Captain (Retired) Haider Raza Mehdi were awarded 12 years rigorous imprisonment,” the military said
ISPR statement further added that “Pursuant to the awarded sentence, the Ranks of both officers have been forfeited on 21 November 2023.”
It is important to mention that neither Raja, nor Mehdi lives in Pakistan right now as they are based outside of Pakistan. But both the officers have huge fan following from Pakistan on their YouTube channels.
