Iconic newscaster Kanwal Naseer remembered on death anniversary

Islamabad (Web Desk): The 4th death anniversary of iconic broadcaster and artist Kanwal Naseer is being observed today (Tuesday).

Known for her pioneering role in Pakistan's media landscape, Kanwal Naseer carved a unique path for women in broadcasting.

She was the daughter of renowned radio personality Mohni Hameed, famously known as Apa Shameem, and inherited her mother's passion for the world of broadcasting.

Kanwal Naseer’s career spanned over five decades, during which she became a central figure at Pakistan Television (PTV) and Radio Pakistan.

She holds the distinction of being the country’s first female anchor, newscaster, and announcer on PTV, breaking longstanding gender barriers in the media. Her groundbreaking work in a male-dominated field earned her respect and admiration across the industry.

In recognition of her exceptional contributions, Kanwal Naseer was honoured with the Pride of Performance award, among several other national accolades.

Kanwal Naseer passed away in 2021. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of broadcasters. Today, as the industry reflects on her remarkable journey, her achievements remain a benchmark for those who follow in her footsteps.
