Interior Minister Naqvi, US envoy discuss regional stability and expanded cooperation

Islamabad (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with US Ambassador Natalie Baker in Islamabad on Tuesday, with discussions covering regional developments, efforts to maintain peace and stability, and the expansion of cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in important areas.

The meeting also addressed cooperation in law enforcement, particularly police training and capacity building. Both sides discussed ways to increase joint efforts to tackle organized crime, drug trafficking and the illegal movement of people.

Naqvi and Ambassador Baker reviewed the prevailing regional situation and exchanged views on issues linked to peace and security.

They also assessed Pakistan-US relations and discussed opportunities for greater collaboration in different sectors.

The two sides explored the possibility of expanding professional training and exchange programmes for police officials, with the aim of improving their expertise and strengthening institutional cooperation.

They further agreed that closer coordination would be required to effectively counter organized criminal networks, narcotics trafficking and human smuggling.

The importance of sharing information and taking coordinated measures against these cross-border threats was also emphasized.

Ambassador Natalie Baker praised the diplomatic efforts of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his contributing to peace and stability in the region.

She stressed that continued communication and diplomatic engagement would remain important for promoting regional security and stronger cooperation.

Federal Secretary for Interior also attended the meeting.
