At least 25 killed as Rawalpindi-bound bus falls into ditch near Azad Pattan

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): At least 25 people died and several others when an ill-fated bus lost its control and plunged into a deep ravine on Rawalakot road Azad Pattan on Sunday.

The rescue teams rushed to the scene, extricating survivors from the wreckage and transporting them to nearby hospitals, where many are receiving treatment for serious injuries, private news channels reported.

The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, but authorities have launched an investigation into the tragedy.

The deceased have been shifted to a local mortuary where their families have gathered to claim their loved ones.

President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the Azad Pattan bus accident near Kahuta.

In his statement, he extended condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident.

The president prayed for high ranks of the deceased and patience to their families.

The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to provide immediate medical aid to the injured.

Earlier on Sunday, 12 people were killed and at least thirty injured when a bus carrying pilgrims from Iran crashed on the Makran Coastal Highway near Lasbela, Balochistan.

The accident took place on the highway close to Buzi Top, according to the police.

The bus, carrying pilgrims returning from Iran, tragically veered off the road and fell into a deep ravine after the driver lost control of the brakes due to excessive speed.
