TikTok introduces new ad formats

California (Web Desk): TikTok is rolling out new advertising formats in its app, a move that may not sit well with many users.

One of the new formats, called “Logo Takeover,” will display a brand’s logo alongside TikTok as soon as users open the app.

This format allows companies to immediately capture users’ attention upon opening TikTok, giving brands greater visibility.

TikTok stated that this advertising format will reflect partnership, credibility, and cultural relevance, while helping advertisers reach a larger audience.

Another new format, “Prime-Time Ads,” will show a series of advertisements at specific times, such as during live events or periods of high engagement. In this format, users may see three ads from the same brand within a 15-minute window.

TikTok is also introducing a “Top Reach” format, which merges two existing ad formats: Top View and Top Feed. Previously, Top View displayed first ads when users opened the app, while Top Feed showed the first ads in the “For You” feed. Now, these two formats are combined for a more integrated advertising experience.

While TikTok says these new formats will help brands reach more users, it also means that users will encounter more ads than before.

Seeing an ad immediately upon opening the app or encountering multiple ads from the same company within a short period may be frustrating for some users.

These changes highlight TikTok’s focus on monetization and advertiser engagement, but they may alter the user experience significantly.
