Pakistan vows to strengthen Commonwealth's role in addressing global crises

New York (Web Desk): Pakistan on Tuesday renewed its pledge to reinforce the Commonwealth’s role in dealing with global challenges and advancing shared progress.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, while speaking at the Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting (CFAMM), welcomed the Secretary-General on the occasion of her first participation in the forum since assuming office in April 2025.

He praised her dedication to speeding up the delivery of decisions taken at CHOGM-2024 and for driving reforms that aim to energize the organization.

Dar noted the value of the Commonwealth as a forum for dialogue, reconciliation, and cooperation at a time when the world is facing overlapping difficulties ranging from conflicts and climate change to fragile economies and disruptive technological shifts.

He underlined that climate change represents a direct threat to the survival of many member states, recalling Pakistan’s own experience as one of the countries most vulnerable to climate impacts.

DPM Dar stressed the importance of keeping climate action, adaptation, financing, and resilience at the forefront of the Commonwealth’s agenda.

He further highlighted Pakistan’s leadership role in promoting initiatives centered on youth, digital innovation, trade, and entrepreneurship within the Commonwealth framework.

Emphasizing that young people must be equipped to shape a more peaceful and prosperous tomorrow, FM Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Commonwealth Connectivity Agenda aimed at boosting digital, physical, regulatory, and supply chain links among member nations.

He reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate closely with the Secretary-General and fellow member states to advance peace, sustainable growth, climate resilience, and inclusive development, ensuring the Commonwealth continues to serve as a relevant and effective institution for the generations ahead.
