SSP Suhai Aziz: Brave lady who led operation against terrorist attack on Chinese consulate

Karachi (Staff Report): SSP Suhai Aziz Talpur – who led the security operation that foiled the terror attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi on Friday morning.

Suhai, hails from a lower middle-class family of Bhai Khan Talpur village in Tando Muhammad Khan district, joined the police force after clearing her CSS in 2013.

The first woman ASP from lower Sindh, Suhat Aziz received praise for her bravery from the Sindh chief minister and Inspector General Sindh Police Kaleem Imam.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also praised Suhai.

"The reprehensible terrorist attack on the Chinese consulate in Karachi, was thwarted by the courageous fight put up by our Sindh Police led by the courageous SSP Suhai Aziz. I salute the brave officers who were martyred courageously protecting our friends. We honor them," he said in a tweeted.

At least seven people ─ two policemen, two civilians and three terrorists ─ were killed in the attack targeting the embassy.

The exchange of fire started around 9.30am.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Karachi Javed Alam Odho, at least three gunmen tried to enter the consulate but were intercepted by security guards at a checkpoint, Retaliatory firing resulted in martyrdom of two police officials, he added.

Three suspects were killed as forces successfully foiled the attack, Karachi Police Chief Dr Amir Shaikh said. "The men came to the consulate in a car which was loaded with explosives," Karachi police chief said.

One person has also been admitted to the hospital in critical condition, he added.

Suicide jackets and weapons were recovered from the possession of the terrorists.

All the staff inside the Chinese consulate is safe, security sources said.
