Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian President Pezeshkian for high-level talks to advance diplomatic initiatives 

Tehran (Web Desk): Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Asim Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

According to Iranian media, during the meeting, both sides discussed the overall regional situation, Pakistan-Iran security cooperation, and in particular the ongoing indirect talks with the United States along with efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were also present on this occasion.

Separately, Field Marshal Asim Munir also met Iran’s chief negotiator and Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and the broader regional situation.

The discussion focused on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic and mediation efforts for de-escalation and regional stability.

Earlier, the Filed Marshal also held meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran to review the latest diplomatic initiatives focused on ending the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran, the Iranian government said.

"Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Iran's Foreign Minister Araghchi in Tehran for late-night talks focused on diplomatic efforts to halt US-Israeli aggression and strengthen regional peace and stability," the government of Iran wrote on X.

According to media reports, the meeting continued until late Friday night, during which both sides discussed ongoing diplomatic moves intended to stop tensions from worsening and help bring the conflict to an end.

Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday as part of ongoing mediation efforts to end the US-Israel war on Iran, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was already present in Tehran, along with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other officials, welcomed the field marshal upon his arrival, the military’s media wing added.

The visit is taking place as Pakistan continues efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran after plans for a second round of negotiations in Islamabad could not move forward.

The first direct talks between the US and Iran were held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12 after a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire was reached on April 8. Although the negotiations ended without any formal agreement, the dialogue process remained active and did not collapse.
