T20 World Cup 2026: South Africa defeat India by 76 runs in Super Eight clash

Ahmadabad (Web Desk): In a stunning turn of events at the ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 stage, South Africa ended defending champions India’s winning streak by defeating them by a commanding margin of 76 runs.

This loss also brought an end to India’s unbeaten run of 12 consecutive matches in the tournament.
The high-stakes clash, held in Ahmedabad, saw South Africa win the toss and opt to bat first—a decision that proved decisive.

The Proteas posted a total of 187 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. David Miller led the charge with a fluent 63 runs, while Dewald Brevis contributed 45 and Rassie van der Dussen added a quickfire 44, guiding the team into a strong position.

From India’s bowling side, Jasprit Bumrah claimed three wickets and Arshdeep Singh took two.
Chasing a target of 188, India’s batting lineup struggled under pressure. The team was bowled out for just 111 runs in the 19th over.

Only Shreyas Iyer offered some resistance with 42 runs, while key batsmen Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav managed only 18 runs each before departing. Marco Jansen led a destructive bowling performance for South Africa, taking four wickets, supported by Keshav Maharaj’s three and Kagiso Rabada’s two.

This marks India’s second heaviest defeat while chasing a target in T20 cricket; previously, New Zealand had beaten them by 80 runs in 2019.

The defending champions, unbeaten in the 2024 World Cup until now, now face mounting pressure following this comprehensive loss.
