Rubio confirms direct US contact with CDF Asim Munir, hints at ‘some progress’ in Iran talks 

Stockholm (Web Desk): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday said that Pakistan is playing a highly significant and historic role regarding the highly negotiations process currently underway aiming at arranging the peace talks between Iran and the US.

Speaking to the media in Sweden, Rubio confirmed that Washington remains in continuous and direct contact with Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as efforts intensify to finalize a potential agreement with Iran. He expressed optimism that the important deal could be concluded in the near future.

The US Secretary of State further warned that if Iran refuses to cooperate at any stage of the negotiations, the US and the international community must be prepared with alternative strategies to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure.

Separately, the security sources in Pakistan confirmed that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Asim Munir has embarked on an official visit to Iran.

According to security sources, during the visit, the CDF is likely to hold meetings with top Iranian officials.

The discussions will focus on regional peace, security cooperation, and other issues of shared interest between the two countries.

The sourced added that the Field Marshal is also expected to meet important Iranian personalities as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral engagement and improve coordination on regional affairs.

The visit comes amid continued diplomatic and security-level exchanges between the two neighbouring states focused on promoting stability and peace in the region.
