PM Shehbaz, other world leaders sign Gaza 'Board of Peace' charter

Davos (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday participated in the signing of the charter for the “Board of Peace,” joining other world leaders in the landmark event.

The launch took place in Davos, Switzerland, coinciding with the World Economic Forum (WEF), which gathers political and business leaders from around the world.

The initiative, headed by US President Donald Trump, is being promoted as a global platform aimed at addressing and resolving international conflicts, bringing together key decision-makers to foster dialogue and cooperation.

The board’s initial focus will be on reinforcing the ceasefire in Gaza, but Trump indicated that its scope could expand to tackle broader international issues, though he stressed it would collaborate with the United Nations (UN).

The countries, which signed the Board of Peace charter also include: Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Mangolia..

Addressing the signing ceremony, President Trump said “Once this board is fully established, we can pursue nearly anything we aim to achieve, working alongside the UN,” highlighting what he described as the organization’s untapped potential.

As the board’s chair, Trump suggested it could address challenges beyond the fragile Gaza truce, prompting some observers to wonder if it might encroach on the UN’s traditional role in global diplomacy and conflict management.

During the announcement, delegates from countries identified as founding members were present in the room.

However, as per the international media reports, representatives from other major global powers, as well as from Israel and the Palestinian Authority, were not immediately visible.

It is pertinent to mention that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also attended the ceremony.

During the event, both Pakistan’s political and military leadership drew significant attention from the international delegation, highlighting the country’s growing visibility on the global stage.

President Trump personally acknowledged Field Marshal Munir, greeting him with a smile, signaling a warm recognition of Pakistan’s contribution to the peace efforts championed by the Board.
