Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 460,672 on Tuesday after 1,704 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.
Overall, 205,484 cases were reported in Sindh, 132,526 in Punjab, 55,450 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,950 in Balochistan, 36,416 in Islamabad, 4,831 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,015 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 9,474 with 82 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.
Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered patients across the country reached 410,937 after another 1,855 virus recoveries were reported.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has barred the entry of travellers from the United Kingdom (UK) over fears of a highly infectious new COVID-19 strain which prompted a slew of countries closing their borders to Britain.
According to a notification issued by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday, temporary restriction is being put in place on inbound travellers from UK (whether direct or indirect) into Pakistan to be effective from midnight Dec 22 until Dec 29.
The notification said that the move was made in line with the decisions taken by National Command and Control (NCOC) in a meeting on Monday.
It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 76.6 million and death toll tops 1.6 million.
