PM urges youth to lead agricultural revival in Pakistan with Chinese expertise

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese leadership for offering training opportunities to Pakistani students in the field of agriculture. He stated that this initiative will help modernize Pakistan’s agricultural sector through exposure to China’s advanced techniques and research.

Speaking at a ceremony held in Islamabad to mark the next batch of students heading to China, the prime minister shared that the idea originated during his visit to Shaanxi province, where he toured a leading agricultural university. Impressed by the high standards of education and research there, he decided to arrange similar opportunities for Pakistani students.

According to PM Shehbaz, a total of 1,000 students are to be sent to China for short-term agricultural training. So far, 300 students have returned after completing their training, 100 are currently in China, and another batch of 300 will depart on August 24.

Highlighting the importance of agriculture in Pakistan’s economy, the Prime Minister said that adopting hybrid seed technology, livestock research, and modern farming methods is crucial to addressing declining crop yields—especially cotton.

He urged the students to visit research centers in China, gain practical knowledge, and return as ambassadors of progress.

“You’ve been selected purely on merit. If we apply the same merit, honesty, and hard work in every field, Pakistan can rise to the level envisioned by its founders,” he added.

PM Shehbaz also announced a 10% additional quota for students from Balochistan, emphasizing the government's commitment to providing equal educational opportunities across provinces.

The prime minister told students, “China is Pakistan’s most trusted friend—stand tall as our representatives and make the most of this opportunity.”

Earlier, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan also addressed the ceremony, praising the Prime Minister’s leadership and reaffirming China’s continued support in Pakistan’s agricultural and economic development.

“This training initiative will have long-term, positive effects for Pakistan’s agri-sector,” he noted.
