UN keeps Afghanistan seat decision on hold over rights and policy concerns

New York / Kabul (Web Desk): Afghanistan’s representation at the United Nations remains uncertain as the issue continues to face delays and complications.

According to TOLOnews, the UN has maintained a strict stance due to non-compliance with key international demands and the non-payment of financial dues.

The report states that Afghanistan has suffered another diplomatic setback, as it has been deprived of its voting rights in the UN General Assembly for the fourth consecutive year due to unpaid annual contributions. This has significantly reduced its influence among member states.

The delay in deciding Afghanistan’s representation is mainly linked to global concerns over human rights and security issues, with key disagreements still unresolved.

The UN’s Credentials Committee has once again postponed a decision on Afghanistan’s permanent seat.

Experts believe that unless consensus is reached between Kabul’s current authorities and the UN on major issues, the restoration of Afghanistan’s voting rights and full participation at the global forum remains unlikely.

Currently, Afghanistan is facing a serious diplomatic deadlock, as economic sanctions limit its ability to clear dues, while differences with the international community over governance and social policies continue.
