PM Shehbaz, Swiss vice president discuss cooperation in diverse sectors

Burgenstock (Web Desk): Vice President and Foreign Minister of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the ongoing technical-level talks between the US and Iran at Burgenstock on Sunday.

During the meeting, Cassis commended Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating dialogue between Washington and Tehran, acknowledging its role in helping advance the negotiations that culminated in the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries.

The Swiss foreign minister also conveyed his government’s readiness to support and assist with the implementation and follow-up stages of the agreement.

PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude for Switzerland’s support and said that the successful execution of the Islamabad MoU would contribute significantly to peace in the region while also strengthening stability in the global economy.

He further welcomed the continued presence of Swiss investment in Pakistan and voiced hope that Swiss firms would expand their business activities and investments in the country in the years ahead.

Highlighting Pakistan’s expertise in the technology sector, the prime minister offered the services of the country’s highly qualified IT and cybersecurity professionals to help meet Switzerland’s increasing requirements in these fields.

The two sides also explored opportunities to broaden collaboration in several areas of shared interest, including pharmaceuticals, tourism, climate action, and disaster risk management.

PM Shehbaz also invited the Swiss foreign minister to undertake an official visit to Pakistan.
